Richest Authors 2012 By Forbes – James Patterson Walks Away With The Crown

I have been a bit busy for a week or so, searching the book stores all over in search of one of my favorite titles. In the meanwhile, Forbes came up with their list of the Richest Authors of 2012. .. How Mean!! .. Well, let’s have a closer look at that.

Though males may be dominating the Forbes this year’s final rundown of the richest authors in the world, but the publishers are predicting the 2013 list to be a lil’ bit more female friendly. Forbes calculations are based on the annual anthology of the official sales figures and final verdicts of the most experienced book experts. According the latest compilation, Forbes found that the year full of 14 new publications bought a good fortune for James Patterson. The 14 amazing titles from the novelist generated a sum of $94m, almost double the money earned by the second king on the list.

“James Patterson”

Nine slots among the top fifteen belong to the male writers, including Patterson ($94m), the King himself (who earned about $39m from his doorsill book based on the assassination JFK), king of legal thriller John Grisham ($26m), Jeff Kinney with his Wimpy Kid ($25) and a neophyte, George RR Martin ($15m from the TV adaptation of Song Of Ice and the Fire Fantasy).

Talking about the females, the first one landed on the third spot, with a paycheck of $33m. Janet Evanovich’s series of 18 amazing books, circling around the life of a female bounty hunter, ranked her third in the list. Forbes believes that the following year’s list will appear quite different. In addition to the good ranking of Suzanne Collins from the earnings of Hunger Games film adaptation and JK Rowling’s earnings from the release of The Casual Vacancy, her first adult novel, EL James record smashing earnings from the Fifty Shades trilogy will land her somewhat close to the top spot in the next year’s list.

According to the experts, the erotic Fifty Shades trilogy is generating revenue of over $1.3 million per week for EL James. That’s not all, she received a whooping sum of $5 million from Focus Films and Universal Pictures for the silver screen rights of the novel. And, how can we forget that the book racks are not clean yet. By the time the next Forbes list is prepared, Fifty Shades would have sold another 20 million copies. Who knows, the tables might turn for the ladies and make them dominate the coming year’s list.
