Richest Authors 2012 By Forbes – James Patterson Walks Away With The Crown

I have been a bit busy for a week or so, searching the book stores all over in search of one of my favorite titles. In the meanwhile, Forbes came up with their list of the Richest Authors of 2012. .. How Mean!! .. Well, let’s have a closer look at that.

Though males may be dominating the Forbes this year’s final rundown of the richest authors in the world, but the publishers are predicting the 2013 list to be a lil’ bit more female friendly. Forbes calculations are based on the annual anthology of the official sales figures and final verdicts of the most experienced book experts. According the latest compilation, Forbes found that the year full of 14 new publications bought a good fortune for James Patterson. The 14 amazing titles from the novelist generated a sum of $94m, almost double the money earned by the second king on the list.

“James Patterson”

Nine slots among the top fifteen belong to the male writers, including Patterson ($94m), the King himself (who earned about $39m from his doorsill book based on the assassination JFK), king of legal thriller John Grisham ($26m), Jeff Kinney with his Wimpy Kid ($25) and a neophyte, George RR Martin ($15m from the TV adaptation of Song Of Ice and the Fire Fantasy).

Talking about the females, the first one landed on the third spot, with a paycheck of $33m. Janet Evanovich’s series of 18 amazing books, circling around the life of a female bounty hunter, ranked her third in the list. Forbes believes that the following year’s list will appear quite different. In addition to the good ranking of Suzanne Collins from the earnings of Hunger Games film adaptation and JK Rowling’s earnings from the release of The Casual Vacancy, her first adult novel, EL James record smashing earnings from the Fifty Shades trilogy will land her somewhat close to the top spot in the next year’s list.

According to the experts, the erotic Fifty Shades trilogy is generating revenue of over $1.3 million per week for EL James. That’s not all, she received a whooping sum of $5 million from Focus Films and Universal Pictures for the silver screen rights of the novel. And, how can we forget that the book racks are not clean yet. By the time the next Forbes list is prepared, Fifty Shades would have sold another 20 million copies. Who knows, the tables might turn for the ladies and make them dominate the coming year’s list. Oh Yes! Fifty Shades Of Grey Becomes An All Time Best Seller

Sold of 5.3 million copies? wOw!! That is the best that a book could ever reach. In spite of being quoted as “mommy porn” and scoffed for “abysmal writing” by some wacky critics, Fifty Shades of Grey did not stop people from snapping the tale of a virginal female protagonist, who falls in love with a billionaire who is fond of bondage love making. Fifty Shades of Grey is the first book belonging to the series of 3 erotic novels from a notable laureate, EL James.

To boggle your minds, this erotic work of fiction, revolving around a successful sadomasochistic man and his girlfriend, has already surpassed the sales of all seven Harry Potter books on Amazon. The whooping 5.3 million figure includes, 3.8 million published books and over 1.5 million eBooks. Well, in terms of hardcover and paperback sales, Fifty Shades still lags behind the Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, which owns the record of selling 4 million prints in UK.

Talking about the sequel books, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, they too are not lagging behind their predecessor. The respective sales figures reach out to 3.6 million and 3.2 million, thereby taking the combined sales figure of the trilogy to over 12 million in UK. As far as the Global effect is concerned, the records mention a sale of over 40 million copies, which is still far afield from the Harry Potter series score of 450 million.

EL James (49), a mother of two, lives in west London and hardly finds her way to the reporter’s camera. The only racy detail available about her is that she is fond of eating Nutella directly from the container. Now getting back to the topic, with Fifty Shades of Grey about to reach the masses through the Silver Screen, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson have already illustrated their will to do the lead role, with Ian Somerhalder willing to play the bondage loving man.

Well, it is up to the top management and Universal pictures (right holders of the film series) to decide the cast. Till then, you can concentrate on your nail biting and in case, you haven’t grabbed your copy yet, please show a lil’ more enthusiasm and fetch your copy now. Well, the fact that the book still rules the best-seller charts for the 16th running week should be well enticing for you to fetch your copies.

With the first two parts of the series, namely The Immortals of Meluha and The Secret of the Nagas, the author blew away minds of the readers with the amazing plotline of the novels. His clever assimilation of Indian Mythology with facts and fiction made the books rule the shacks all around the globe. It is just a news update, surely capable of boggling the booklovers, from the author’s desk. Though Amish have not yet revealed the actual date of release of the final chapter, but he has given a slight idea about the same. According to the official facebook fanpage, the author has confirmed that he is done with one-sixth of the final edition and is expecting to release the same in December 2012.

The Amish – The Official Fanpage says,

“Hi guys. I thot I’ll give you a quick update on The Oath of the Vayuputras. I’ve been writing away and the story keeps getting longer and longer. So it looks like it’s going to be a rather long book; 30 chapters at the minimum…”

“50 Shades Series”

Here are some incredibly awaited literary works that will be hitting the shacks during the remaining half of 2012.

1. The Twelve by Justin Cronin
Since the author ended THE PASSAGE (2010) on an appalling cliffhanger, the readers cannot wait more for grabbing their copies of the sequel and return to the eerie world of Amy and Peter, set in a post apocalyptic era. One can just bet on the fact that this sequel from Justin Cronin will be one of the bestsellers.

2. The Son by Philipp Meyer
AMERICAN RUST, a debut novel from Philipp Meyer, made its entry into the most acclaimed books of 2009. His second literary work, THE SON, is mainly focused on Eli, Pete (Eli’s son) and Jeanne (Pete’s daughter), the 3 generations of a family based in Texas. According to the writer, each of them deals with their very own challenges in a respective order of comanche raiders, border wars and a changing civilization.

3. Joseph Anton by Salman Rushdie
The iconic literary figure is all set to describe his story from the years he spent hiding out from the world. On a certain date, Rushdie received a phone call from a BBC journalist, who told him that he has been sentenced to death by Ayatollah Khomeini. This was a gesture against his novel, The Satanic Verses, which was considered to be against Islam, the Prophet and Quran. To be released in September 2012, the writer explains how he, along with his family lived with a threat of being murdered for nine long years.
